The Tinacious Design website was in need of some TLC so I wanted to make sure it was up to par with the rest of my work for 2014.

System overhaul

The code base has been completely overhauled. The website is built using the ProcessWire content management system for the main site and WordPress for the blog.

ProcessWire

ProcessWire is a flexible, powerful content management system. I wanted my website to be easy to update, be efficient to develop and handle a variety of content. For that reason, ProcessWire was the best choice.

Other contenders included Drupal and WordPress but for a small-scale website that needs to be flexible, user-friendly and lightweight, the best decision was ProcessWire.

You can see a video about the first iteration in ProcessWire here.

WordPress

WordPress is a powerful blogging engine and the perfect tool when it comes to building a blog. The extensive plugin community offers lots of plugins to help even the most novice users get started with a website.

My blog is custom designed and developed from the ground up to match the ProcessWire site using WordPress as the blogging engine platform.

WordPress is a powerful system and is, in my opinion, the best solution for getting a blog up and running as quickly as possible.

Responsive Design

The new Tinacious Design website is responsive, just like previous versions, except this one uses a mobile-first approach.

Mobile-first development

Mobile-first means that the website is optimized for mobile phones initially and then additional features and functionality are developed and served to larger screens. This ensures that mobile users only download what is needed to view the site and nothing more.

Graceful degradation to Internet Explorer 8

Even though it pains me to know that people still use Internet Explorer 8, I still needed to take these users into account. The site gracefully degrades for these users *.

* If this is you, you may experience an enhanced internet experience by upgrading your browser.

Front-end frameworks

SASS with Compass for CSS development, and jQuery for JavaScript, with the assistance of the Modernizr library for accessibility and optimization for old browsers and mobile devices.

You won’t find Bootstrap, Foundation or another front-end framework here—I chose to keep my website bloat-free and opted to use the Susy grid system to keep everything nicely aligned and developed only the CSS and JavaScript required.

Retina-ready

If you’re viewing this on an iPhone or another retina screen, you’ll notice that there aren’t any fuzzy graphics. That’s because all graphics and icons were optimized for retina screens and use vector images.

Screenshots

If you’re on the site already, these screenshots may not serve you that well, but in case you’re reading this later and in case I’ve changed the site again, here are some screenshots of this iteration.
